#2 - Monohull vs Catamarn

destiny's journey Mar 30, 2024

G'day everyone, welcome to the second episode of Sailing Destiny. Today, I want to delve into the monohull versus catamaran debate. But before we get into that, I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all my wonderful friends who have tuned in from around the world. Your feedback and insights have been invaluable to me, and I really appreciate your support.

Now, before we dive into the debate, I want to share a bit of my philosophical approach with you. I believe that sailing is not just about the act of sailing itself, but it's also a vessel to talk about life and the real things behind it. In today's age, where division is so prominent, I think it's important to come together and find common ground. With that being said, let's get into the monohull versus catamaran debate and explore what each has to offer.

Key Takeaways

  • Sailing is not just about the act of sailing itself, but it's also a vessel to talk about life and the real things behind it.
  • In today's age, where division is so prominent, it's important to come together and find common ground.

Lastly, before I get into the debate of monohulls versus catamarans, I want to talk about something that's really important to me. In today's age of division, I believe it's crucial to lead from the heart and with love. Let's focus on what unites us rather than what divides us. As I always say, "you do you" as long as you're a decent human being.

That's all for now, stay tuned for more updates.

Philosophical Approach

Before diving into the debate of monohulls versus catamarans, I want to take a moment to discuss my philosophical approach. My goal with this channel is not just to talk about sailing, but to talk about life and the real issues behind it. Sailing and Destiny serve as the vessel to do that in.

In today's age, division is something that's so prevalent. Whether it's from the US, red or blue, white or black, Muslim or Christian, the people who control us want us to be separated. They want division, they want us to hate each other because hate and anger make us easily controlled.

Philosophically, I believe this debate is an important conversation. It doesn't matter if you know anything about the industry or if you spot the cat cap I'm wearing today, you'll pretty much know which way I'm leaning on this one. But the point is, why do we have to choose sides? Why not both? The division of humans is something that I don't like, but I believe it's something by design.

My intention is to lead from the heart, lead with love, and treat others with respect and integrity. As long as you're a decent human being and treat others with kindness, then do whatever you want to do.

So before I get into the monohull versus catamaran debate and share my opinion on what I want Destiny to be, I just wanted to share this philosophical approach that's near and dear to my heart.

Monohulls vs Catamarans Debate

Now, let's get into the debate of monohulls versus catamarans. As an ocean enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by sailing and exploring the vastness of the ocean. I believe that this is a very important conversation to have, not just for sailors but for everyone. In today's age, division is something that's so prominent, and those who control us want us to be separated and hate each other. By thinking with anger, we are easily controlled.

When it comes to the debate of monohulls versus catamarans, I lean towards catamarans. However, I think it's important to approach this debate philosophically. It's not about choosing sides; it's about understanding the benefits and drawbacks of each option.

Here are some key points to consider in the monohulls versus catamarans debate:

Monohulls

  • Monohulls have a single hull, which makes them more maneuverable in rough seas.
  • They are generally cheaper to buy and maintain than catamarans.
  • Monohulls have a more traditional sailing experience, and many sailors prefer the feeling of being on a monohull.

Catamarans

  • Catamarans have two hulls, which provide more stability and space.
  • They are faster and more fuel-efficient than monohulls.
  • Catamarans have a shallower draft, which allows them to anchor closer to shore and explore shallow waters.

In conclusion, the debate of monohulls versus catamarans ultimately comes down to personal preference and intended use. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, and it's up to the individual to decide which option is best for them. As for me, I prefer catamarans for their stability, speed, and spaciousness.

Personal Sailing Experiences

I have always been ocean-obsessed, growing up in a coastal town in South Africa called Am Manus. As a kid, I started with boogie boarding and then learned how to dive for abalone and crayfish. We used to sell it to the locals and that's how we got our beer money. But I never got into sailing until much later.

I ride everything in the ocean, from a 4-foot foil board to a 9-foot longboard. I also kite surf and do many other ocean-related activities. But sailing has always been something I've wanted to do. I decided to get into sailing about four years ago when I was on the banks of the Marucho River in Australia. It was New Year's Day of 2020, and we were discussing where we would be in 2030.

I realized that I'm a gypsy at heart, an adventurer, and a wanderer. I don't do well in one place for too long. So, I started my sailing journey, and it has been an incredible experience. I've learned so much about the ocean and the world around me.

I've sailed on both monohulls and catamarans, and I have to say that I prefer catamarans. They offer more stability, space, and comfort. I've sailed on a few monohulls, and they can be very tippy and uncomfortable in rough seas.

Overall, my personal sailing experiences have been transformative, and I'm grateful for every moment I've spent on the water.
